Fulton Property Tax – Fixing the Problem
Everyone in Fulton County should have received your 2018 Annual Notice of Assessment. Like many of you, I was shocked and dismayed by the enormous jump in my property value.
I have been leading the effort to fix this problem although the cause is coming from Fulton County. I worked with my colleagues in the GA Senate and House of Representatives earlier this year to pass important legislation solving this problem moving forward and I need your help!
Please be sure to vote “YES” on the three ballot questions this November to cap property taxes starting in 2019. This will also reset your home value to the lowest amount of the values during 2016, 2017 and 2018. If these questions pass, your value can never increase more than 3% or the CPI, whichever is lower. This will help protect our families and homeowners moving forward. The third question will help senior citizens age 65 and older receive a homestead exemption up to $50,000.
If you believe the value is wrong this year (2018), please consider appealing the value to Fulton County. More information can be found here: http://fultonassessor.org/property-appeals/. I appealed my property value online and the process was fairly simple. You can get comparable pricing and understand what other homes are selling for in your area by using tools such as zillow.com. I know many values are not accurate and this is our chance to get 2018 correct.
Remember we need your help on the November ballot to fix this problem starting in 2019 and beyond.
